Thrive has spawned many memes in its lengthy tenure as an ideological trend. From underwater civilizations to twenty-and-a-half toothbrushes, this page attempts to catalog all of theme.
The Uteen[]
Origin: Thrive Developer Wiki,TheUteen, 13 Nov 2010
Notable for their outlandish language and broadcasting "Buy 20.5 toothbrushes" to everyone. Mostly specific to the user that created them, who used a hyperdimentional transitional hypothetical message-o-mat for their signature.
Nike Shoes[]
Origin: Thrive Developer Forums,TheCreator, 16 July 2016
An icon for proteins resembled a shoe with the Nike swoosh, instead of the intended usage of a T-bone steak on the ground. Naturally, a developer made the comparison.
Disco Mode[]
One of the glitches in an older version of Thrive made the nucleus flash. This was dubbed "disco mode" and then became a recurring meme, and even an idea for a possible cheat code for the game. (Fun fact: there was a disco mode theme for an April fools version of Thrive)
Smeltal the Meltal[]
Origin: Thrive Podcast, Narotiza, 17 January 2017
The meme originates from the never-ending debate of whether underwater civilizations could be possible. An argument often made in defense of underwater civilizations is to smelt metal using hydrothermal vents, and it quickly became a meme among the community. The title originates from highlight of a Thrive Podcast in 2017 which was immortalized here.
“But wait! What if they can use the hydrotermical vents to smeltal the meltal?”
— Narotiza.
Banana Biome[]
Origin: Thrive Community Forums, Colt44, 21 December 2018
The 0.4.0 version had a bug which turned the current biome into a yellow with a black stripe background. The user Colt44 called it the Banana Biome while reviewing the version. In October 2019, zenzonegaming made the thread Banana biome cul- uh we mean group! (definitely not a cult!) and a reboot.
(Un)fortunately, both threads were locked.
